Prime Minister of the United Kingdom David Cameron has assured that he would visit Nepal.
Speaking to Nepalese Ambassador to the UK Dr Suresh Chandra Chalise at ‘Remembrance Sunday’, organised on Nov 13 to give tribute to those who were killed in the war, Cameron said that he is interested in visiting Nepal.
According to embassy sources, Cameron assured Chalise of a visit to Nepal (although he said that the date is not fixed yet) after Chalise said that Nepal has wanted to host the UK Prime Minister for the past 197 years.
“I cannot tell you the date yet, but I assure you that I would pay a visit to Nepal,” the source quoted Cameron. Furthermore, Samantha Cameron, wife of David Cameron, also proclaimed her interest in visiting Nepal.
In the past two centuries Queen Elizabeth has visited Nepal twice, along with multiple visits by other political dignitaries. However, no British prime minister has visited Nepal in the almost-200 year’s mutual relation between the two countries.
According to the source, Cameron is interested in visiting Nepal if he received a formal invitation for the same. The Nepali Embassy in London had requested the Nepal Government to send a formal invitation during the tenure of Jhala Nath Khanal. However, the government did not response to it.
Prime Minister Cameron had also praised the Gorkha Army’s presentation of Khukuri Dance, band display and pipers and drums display during the ‘Remembrance Annual Events’ organised by the British Legion at Albert’s Hall in London. Samantha Cameron said that the performance was “so moving”.
