Nepal becomes 2nd most corrupted country in South Asia

Nepal has become second most corrupted country in South Asia. Transparency International (TI) has ranked Nepal in the 154th position with a score of 2.2 after being ranked 146th previous last year, in its Corruption Perception Index (CPI) 2011. Which is only better than Afganistan having 1.5 rating.

The index this year has rated 183 countries and territories from 0 (highly corrupt) to 10 (very clean) based on perceived levels of public sector corruption using data from 17 surveys that look at factors such as enforcement of anti-corruption laws, access to information and conflicts of interest.
According to figure of CPI Bhutan is the country with least corruption in South Asia with 5.7 ratings. Likewise Srilanka has 3.3, India 3.1, Bangaladesh 2.7, Maldives 2.5 and Pakistan has also 2.5 rating.
Releasing the CPI report today, the TI said that corruption continues to plague too many countries around the world, according to Transparency International’s 2011 CPI. It shows some governments failing to protect citizens from corruption, be it abuse of public resources, bribery or secretive decision-making.
Two thirds of ranked countries score less than 5. The report discovers that, New Zealand ranks least corrupted country followed by Finland and Denmark. Somalia and North Korea are the most corrupted countries according to the report.
